How Therapy Works

Many people come to therapy feeling caught in patterns that are hard to shift. Repeating patterns of anxiety, self-doubt, or internal pressure that that lead to struggling with relationships, unhelpful behaviors, creatively stuck, or unsure about your direction in life.

I work with concerns like anxiety and persistent worry, low mood, perfectionism, self-doubt, and the ways these patterns show up in multiple areas of our lives. I also support people navigating life transitions, processing difficult and traumatic experiences, and reconnecting with a sense of clarity and authenticity.

This work is collaborative, flexible, and often surprising. We work together to understand what’s happening at a deeper level. Over time, this helps you change how you respond to difficult thoughts, emotions and experiences, so they have less impact on your life. The goal isn’t to become someone different, but to move through your life with more understanding, stability, and a stronger sense of confidence.

My approach is grounded in mindfulness and compassion-based therapy, integrating multiple approaches that best suit you. Rather than trying to eliminate difficult thoughts or emotions, we focus on understanding them and changing your relationship to them.

In practice, this means learning how to:

  • notice thoughts and behaviors in a non-judgmental way

  • stay with difficult emotions without becoming overwhelmed or governed by them

  • make meaningful sense of your experience

  • respond with more awareness and compassion rather than reacting automatically

Over time, people often experience meaningful shifts.

You may feel less caught in your thoughts and emotions, and more able to relate to them in new ways. Self-criticism, anxiety, and internal pressure often soften, making it easier to move through challenges with more clarity and confidence.

Many people find they feel increased ease, more trusting of themselves, and more comfortable honestly expressing who they are in relationships. It can also become easier to stay present in difficult moments, reconnect with your work, goals, or sense of direction. Ultimately capable of a more compassionate and caring relationship with yourself and others.
